Applications Accepted Now for the Gambling Disorder Treatment Supervision Fellowship Program

Recovery Resources and Ohio Mental Health & Addiction Services will again partner for the third year of the Disordered Gambling Treatment Supervision Fellowship Program (Fellowship Program). The goal of this program is to prepare clinicians to provide clinical supervision for professionals who are eligible to treat people with disordered gambling. This includes skills such as the ability to provide clinical supervision in person and via phone, to serve as a trainer on the topic of disordered gambling treatment and serve as a general resource regionally and at the state level on disordered gambling treatment. The fellowship is comprised of training, clinical consultation, professional development planning and concludes with fellows presenting a case study and professional development plan. STILL NOT SURE WHAT PG FUNDS CAN BE SPENT ON?
Occasionally, OhioMHAS staffers hear that questions still exist regarding how Problem Gambling allocation dollars can be spent. The funds may be spent on the exact same services for which any other community dollar may be spent.
Ø Prevention dollars may be used for outreach, education, other prevention strategies and workforce development.
Ø Treatment funds may be used for any treatment service in the continuum of care, including screening/assessment for gambling disorder and treatment of clients with a gambling disorder diagnosis.
These clients are the primary service population for the PG allocation funds, but Boards may request a waiver to use the funding on other addictions as long as anyone who presents for treatment for Gambling Disorder can still receive that treatment at no cost to the client. The allocations went out for SFY2018 requesting a 50/50 prevention/treatment split. Boards may email Stacey.frohnapfel@mha.ohio.gov to request variations of the 50/50 allotment of funds.
SFY 2017 STATS NEEDED
It is time to complete year-end reporting for all PG grants and allocations in the GFMS web-based system. Year-end reports were due July 31st, so please complete them asap. ADAMH/MHRS Boards should emailStacey.frohnapfel@mha.ohio.gov with their PG numbers of those screened, identified and treated in SFY 2017.
eBASED ACADEMY WEBSITE ADDS “PROBLEM GAMBLING – FOCUS ON INCARCERATED” COURSE
A course has just been added to eBased Academy called, “Problem Gambling Overview – Focus on the Incarcerated.” The course provides one hour of continuing education on identifying problem gamblers within the incarcerated population, screening tools available, and where to find resources for both the problem gambler and the clinician. Among people with substance use disorder and/or mental illness, the rate of co-occurring gambling disorder is 20-50 percent, and gambling is a regular past-time in the institutions.
