Don’t Gamble on a Gift this Holiday Season.

Published: December 3, 2018

The holidays are a time to celebrate with family and friends. At Get Set Before You Bet, it’s a time to remind everyone to celebrate safely and gift responsibly.

Over the past 11 years, the National Council on Problem Gambling’s “Gift Responsibly” campaign has helped raise awareness of the risks associated with giving lottery tickets as gifts to underage children. That kind of early exposure to gambling increases the likelihood of developing problems later in life. Lotteries across the country, including right here in Ohio, have participated in the campaign over the years and efforts to spread the message continue to grow.

We’re proud to support the mission of the “Gift Responsibly” campaign. Keep in mind, it’s not just the young who could be at risk; adult family and friends may also be prone to problem gambling. While little things like playing cards, games of chance and scratch-off tickets might seem like fun-filled stocking stuffers, they could be the triggers that can leave someone who is struggling with addiction feeling very vulnerable.

So, while you’re spreading holiday cheer, help us spread our message of safe gambling practices by visiting BeforeYouBet.org for community resources, helpful tips and important information.
