Many Ohioans are unaware of the potentially devastating effects problem gambling can cause. It is often portrayed as being fun and social – but the truth is, gambling can affect a person’s entire life. It can negatively impact work, school or family relationships. It can affect mental, emotional and physical well-being. Raising awareness of that reality is what Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) is all about.
Led by the National Council on Problem Gambling, PGAM is a grassroots campaign. It depends on the participation of state affiliate members, health agencies, recovery groups and health organizations. Groups across the country hold conferences, air public service announcements and run social media campaigns to spread awareness of problem gambling and the prevention, treatment and recovery services available.
