Five Easy Ways To Get Organized This January

Published: January 10, 2022

Does the aftermath of the holiday season have you itching for a fresh and organized start to the new year? If you answered yes to that question, you aren’t alone.

Whether it’s the pileup of new gifts, containers full of holiday leftovers, or boxes of holiday decorations that need to be put away, the post-holiday season can feel like an overwhelming time, but it doesn’t have to be!

With January being named “Get Organized Month,” it is a great time to take stock of everything you’ve collected over 2021, unclutter your space and mind, and kick off the coming year with a fresh perspective.

But sometimes, the most challenging part of any goal is getting the motivation to get started. That’s why Before You Bet has created a list of five simple ways you get and stay organized throughout 2022.

  1. Develop a morning routine. Your morning can be the most productive part of the day if you get into the right kind of schedule.Set up the ideal morning routine full of things that you enjoy and need to do. An example would be making your coffee, meditating, and writing a to-do list for the day. Try and stick to the routine, and before you know it, your morning will become your favorite part of the day.
  2. Write everything down. Studies show that when you write things down, the more likely you are to remember the specific task you need to accomplish. So, bring a small notepad around with you in a purse or backpack and jot down whatever tasks come to mind, or create a note in your phone — whether that is a to-do item, grocery list addition, or appointment reminder. Your future self will thank you for it.
  3. Set a weekly laundry day. Laundry is always the first thing to pile up when life gets busy, especially if there are little ones in your life. To stay on top of the literal laundry list, set aside one day (or even two, depending on the size of your household) a week to tackle laundry.
  4. Place everything in organizational containers. Organizational bins, baskets, or tubs can significantly help your space feel decluttered and clean. Use containers to compartmentalize different areas of the house, such as the pantry, closet spaces, or your basement.
  5. Automate everything you can. If 2021 taught us anything, it’s that technological advancements can help to ease your stress. So, automate everything you can, like bill payments, grocery deliveries, insurance renewals, and subscription services. It gives you one less thing to worry about.
