Five Museums To Visit During Youth Art Month

Published: March 21, 2022

Youth Art Month is celebrated every March, a time of year that promotes art education across the United States. It’s a great opportunity to talk with the child in your life about the value of art education. Studies show it can improve critical thinking and encourage creativity for students, community organizations, and individuals everywhere.

During the remaining weeks of cold weather, connect with your child by visiting various museums together. Luckily, Ohio has a wealth of art and historical museums within easy driving distance from Ohio’s major cities.

Toledo Museum of Art

Toledo Museum of Art has been spreading the importance of art education since 1901. Aside from the museum’s various exhibits, it also has a family center designed for young children and grown-ups to explore art together. Each session includes the supplies needed to create unique art inspired by TMA’s collections and exhibits. For more information, visit the Toledo Museum of Art

Cleveland Museum of Art

Founded in 1913, the Cleveland Museum of Art is educational and free. The building itself is a form of art and has an amazing campus to explore. The museum consists of paintings and sculptures and has educational events for kids and families to introduce your child to art and verbal and visual literacy. For more information, visit the Cleveland Museum of Art

National Museum of the U.S. Air Force

Located in Dayton, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (NMUSAF) was established in 1923. The NMUSAF is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world, with more than 360 aircraft and missiles on display. The museum is highly educational for kids, and it is completely free for the public. For more information, visit the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.

The Ohio State House

Opened in 1839, The Ohio State House in Columbus highlights the important lessons of Ohio citizenship, agriculture, and art. The Ohio State House provides a unique opportunity to learn more about Ohio, and touring it is entirely free. Its architecture and interactive programs are well worth the trip to the state’s capital. Cincinnati Museum Center

This multi-museum complex has been educating the people of Cincinnati and beyond since 1990. The Cincinnati Museum Center is complete with a children’s museum, a theater, a library, a symphonic pipe organ, and special traveling exhibitions. For more information, visit the Cincinnati Museum Center
