Promoting Responsible Gambling Ahead of the Super Bowl

Published: February 6, 2023

When it comes to widely watched sporting events, few rival the Super Bowl. In addition to being the culmination of the NFL season, the Super Bowl is a cultural event, with even non-sports fans tuning in to see the newest and most creative commercials and the halftime show. And for the first time in Ohio, the Super Bowl will feature a new addition: legal sports betting.

The Super Bowl will be an opportunity for many people who have never tried gambling before to do so easily and in a high-stakes game, which can potentially lead to developing a problem with gambling. That’s why, as the Super Bowl draws near and both March Madness and Problem Gambling Awareness Month are fast approaching, it is more important than ever to raise awareness for Ohio’s Problem Gambling Helpline.

The Problem Gambling Helpline helps connect individuals negatively impacted by gambling with the resources they need. By calling 1-800-589-9966 or texting 4HOPE to 741741, anyone who thinks they might have a problem or are worried about a family member, loved one, or friend can access resources and be put in touch with people who care.

The Problem Gambling Helpline is completely free and available at any time, every day of the year, and is staffed by trained and understanding specialists who are attentive to every caller’s unique individual needs. Callers’ personal details are kept confidential, and if needed, they can be directed to treatment and other resources immediately.

To help increase awareness of the Ohio’s Problem Gambling Helpline during this year’s Super Bowl, March Madness season, and Problem Gambling Awareness Month, Before You Bet has assembled a toolkit of resources that community organizations can use to spread the word in their individual communities. That toolkit includes:

  • 15- and 30-second testimonial PSA videos
  • A radio spot
  • Digital ads
  • Print ads
  • Billboards
  • Informational handouts

All assets in the Community Toolkit, including the new sports betting campaign, Pause Before You Play, can be customized with your organization’s logo for free to assist in your responsible gambling campaign efforts.

And if you’re looking for another easy way to support Before You Bet’s mission, be sure to follow us and share our posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. By following us and re-sharing our posts, you can help raise awareness of the Problem Gambling Helpline as Ohio enters its first Super Bowl and March Madness betting season.
