Put Yourself First During Self-Improvement Month With These Five Tips

Published: September 30, 2024

No matter how far you’ve come, whether that’s in relationships, your career, or your personal life, it is always a good idea to take stock of where you could improve. Doing so can help you stay motivated and excited about the future. And with Self-Improvement Month taking place in September, now is a great time to consider how you could focus on self-improvement.

Focusing on self-growth is linked with positive outcomes like improved confidence and self-satisfaction. So how can you get started working on self-improvement? Pause Before You Play has identified a few tips to help make the journey a little less overwhelming.

Tip 1: Start small. A goal is only as good as its feasibility. Making realistic goals like waking up at a certain time each day or drinking an extra glass of water with each meal are great ways to build momentum so you can tackle other goals with confidence.

Tip 2: Get out of your comfort zone. Are you afraid of heights? Try going on a manageable hike. Don’t like to try new foods? Visit one new restaurant a month. Getting out of your comfort zone allows you to open your mind to new ideas and, when they go well, provides you with the boost you need to keep pushing yourself.

Tip 3: Prioritize rest. Nothing productive can be done on a bad night’s sleep. Proper rest is one of the most important yet underrated factors of good health. It energizes you, improves your mood, and allows you to take on other challenges with a renewed mindset! Make regular changes to this and watch other areas of your life fall into place.

Tip 4: Stop trying to be perfect. The fear of failing keeps many people from trying in the first place. Don’t let your concern over not perfectly executing a goal be the reason you don’t make the progress you want. Set realistic goals and remind yourself that progress is more important than perfection.

Tip 5: Form a support team. Find others who will cheer you on towards your goals, whether a partner, friend, or neighbor. Doing so will keep you accountable and allow you to have another person to celebrate with when things go well.
