Stage II: Applications and Approaches in Treating Gambling Disorder

Prerequisite: Stage I: Gambling, Problem Gambling, and Ohio’s Service System or 12 hours of gambling-specific education required
Schedule: This virtual training will run on Wednesday, March 5th – Friday, March 7th. Each day, the session will run from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM EST with a 1-hour break from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. Each day will consist of 4 hours of content totaling 12 hours.
Course description: This training builds on Stage I: Gambling, Problem Gambling and Ohio’s Service System and is aimed at conceptualization, treatment planning, and treatment delivery for those presenting with problem gambling and gambling disorder. Best practice models of care for gambling issues will be reviewed, specifically highlighting Cognitive Behavioral Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness-Based Interventions. The training will be interactive, with large and small group exercises aimed at increasing competencies for gambling treatment.

- Participants will learn assessment tools and protocols designed specifically for gambling treatment
- Participants will learn culturally sensitive treatment protocols designed for treating gambling and reducing gambling harm
- Participants will review potential ethical dilemmas when working with clients presenting with gambling issues

12.0 CEUs are available for this training which can be used toward obtaining the GAMB Endorsement through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board or towards becoming a counselor qualified to treat gambling disorder through the Ohio Social Worker, Counselor, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board.

Lead Trainers: Mike Rosen, LPCC-S & Jesse Wodrig, MBA, LCDCIII-GAMB, OCPSA
Mike is a licensed professional clinical counselor with supervision designation. He has spent the last 13 years in the field of addiction treatment and co-occurring disorders. He is currently working in a private practice setting helping individuals deepen insights to addiction tendencies. He received a Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling from Xavier University and has received advanced training in the treatment of gambling disorder. He has provided gambling-specific trainings at the state and local levels, facilitates the Ohio Gambling Treatment Fellowship Program, and provides supervision for PGNO’s Supervision Cohorts.
Jesse is PGNO’s Ohio Gambling Telehealth Network Manager. Jesse has worked in the treatment services field for 10 years primarily working with clients living with substance use disorders. He has both direct service and administrative experience in this field. Starting in 2020, he started trainings to build competency to assist clients living with gambling disorders, and this has become his primary professional interest. As the OGTN Manager, Jesse heads efforts to connect clients to telehealth services for assistance in treating gambling disorders while also facilitating occasional trainings.
