How to get involved in Responsible Gaming Education Week

Published: September 8, 2020

Taking place September 13-19, Responsible Gaming Education Week 2020 (RGEW) will spotlight the American Gaming Association (AGA) campaign “Have A Game Plan.™ Bet Responsibly.” With sports betting now legal and active in nearly 20 states—and Ohio’s legislation in progress—promoting responsible gambling and sharing informative resources is a fundamental priority for AGA and Ohio for Responsible Gambling, during RGEW and all year round. Ready to get involved and show your commitment to keeping gambling fun, social, and responsible? Here are a few ways to participate in RGEW:

Spread the message of responsible gambling.
Whether it’s on social media or in conversation with friends and family, share the important message of responsible gambling with those you care about, especially people who gamble. BeforeYouBet.org offers responsible gambling tips and resources to help everyone play it safe.

Educate yourself and others on safe sports betting.
Interested in sports betting? While sports betting is illegal in Ohio, that may change. Now’s the time to get familiar with sports betting basics to ensure responsible play in the future. If you have friends who live in an area where they can participate in legal sports betting, talk with them about playing only with reputable licensed, regulated sportsbook operators.

Know the warning signs of problem gambling.
Regardless of the type of gambling people participate in, there are common warning signs that indicate a gambling problem or addiction. Some warning signs include:

  • Borrowing money for gambling
  • Exaggerating wins or losses
  • Lying about how much time is spent gambling
  • Becoming restless or irritable when not gambling
