Sports Betting Resources Launched
Published: June 7, 2021
Did you know that over half of American adults have placed a sports bet, and almost 57 million play fantasy sports? With online and mobile apps becoming more accessible – and the possibility of sports betting becoming legal in Ohio within the next year – experts are concerned more people will develop a problem with gambling.
Online sports betting and fantasy sports allow people to place a bet or a guess on nearly every aspect of sporting events in real-time, shortening the time it takes to place bets and know the outcome, which allows people to place more sports bets and wager more money in one game than before.
These websites and apps are also a chance for many people to place their first sports bet, which could get more people interested in placing bets – another cause for concern among experts.
While sports betting is not currently legal in Ohio, activities like fantasy sports are. That’s why Before You Bet is proud to launch the expansion of the Sports Betting Community Toolkit. This toolkit aims to spread awareness about responsible betting habits when engaging in sports betting and/or fantasy sports.
A Few Tips to Gamble Responsibly Include:
- Setting limits on how much you bet
- Paying your bills before gambling
- Knowing the risks before you bet
- Keeping gambling a social activity
- Having other hobbies outside of gambling
Before You Bet hopes this toolkit will help Ohioans know that there are ways to find free help closest to them. If you or a loved one has a problem with gambling, support is here 24/7. For immediate help, call the free, confidential helpline at 1-800-589-9966 or text 4HOPE to 741741.
